The Beginners Guide to Meditation
Meditate. Pray. Quiet Time. Whatever, just do it…
The difference between busy and productive is mental. I can fill my day with so much movement and stuff it makes most peoples head spin. It’s easy for me. The challenge is to quiet the mind and be still long enough and consistently enough for it to happen. All the good stuff happens when our minds are quiet and our bodies are still. Determination shines through when we quiet our mind. I find out who I really am when I quiet my mind.
Don’t make it a production. You don’t need oils and beads and a shrine to meditate. Although all those things are wonderful and I use them all on different days, you need only you. Sit or lie down in a quiet spot where you are comfortable. Control your breathing - slow, deep breathes - to calm your mind and body. You can choose 5-10 affirmations to help you clear the mind - I am love, I am determined, I am abundant, I am grace, I am a warrior, I am understanding, I am patient - you get the picture.
I have thoughts come up, you will too - you’re human, acknowledge them saying,” I see you but not right now” and keep doing that. It may take 100 times and that’s ok! Eventually you will notice a shift, go with it. You’ve got plenty of time. Practice makes practice loves! Give thanks to what and who are important in your life. Even people that get under your skin. Don’t spend a lot of time here because this moment is about you. Breathe and feel the world sitting underneath you. In this moment, you are on top of the world!
It’s freeing. Don’t knock it til you try it….at least 100 times!
